Skiers Are Made in the Summer!

There is an old saying that skiers are made in the Summer.  Maybe it's that those that work hard in the Summer are ahead of those that get going in the Fall, but in working with Junior athletes I have often felt (and with some documentation from testing results) that a week in the summer is worth two in the fall - probably to the greater amount of time the athletes have available for training and especially for recovery.  Not to mention I'm sure with less stress from school the quality of recovery is enhanced.

In any case, it's cool to see significant, tangible benefits in just one short month!

Here are some shots from the crew making it happen on Tuesday:

L2-L3 Ski-walking session up Ester Dome

Riley (in yellow) has been doing a ton of bike racing lately, so he wisely opted to take this one a bit easier.

Great body position from Eliza - we've been focusing hard on the fundamentals

The Mosquitoes have been pretty bad this summer - Kyle got owned by them on the way up.

One final group shot with Nick Grimmer before he flew south.

We started the P/Ds with a variety of balance drills.

Then we worked on some agility

Clearly Maya has not learned that there is no fun in ski training...

Our main part of the session was working on foot speed

We did 3x80m sprint on a slight uphill and then reversed direction going downhill for a bit of 'overspeed.'

All in all, a good day!
