The Summer Solstice has passed and the days are gradually getting shorter. Winter is approaching.
Six months from today we'll be racing at Besh Cup 2! In 260 days the 2013 Junior Nationals kick-off at Birch Hill, right here in Fairbanks!
Better get busy...
This morning we did a classic rollerski from the University out Sheep Creek Rd and ended by heading up Spinach Creek Rd. With shuttles and repeating sections of the road we probably ended up with 15 to 20 km of skiing on the day, depending on the individual. Net elevation gain was about 700 ft, which came mostly in a 1 mile climb on Spinach Creek Rd - we have been making a point of including substantial vertical into our sessions to this point in the year.
One of our goals was to not only ski up the hill but to use it to reinforce good technical habits, so after maybe 5k into the ski we set up a couple of technique drills in a pull-off along the road to reinforce a quick kick and complete weight transfer. Mission accomplished: all looked technically better than a couple of weeks ago. It's really nice to finish each of these sessions and feel like you can make a big, emphatic check mark next to it. Incremental gains all the way to winter...

I love seeing athletes skiing right behind one another tuned into each other's technique. Skeeto (UVM) and Heather (UAF). |
