Double Pole Test

Probably the most important test we do, or at least the one that is most indicative of training gains that will enhance skiing performance, is the Miller Hill Double Pole Test.  Today we did our first round of the test, setting a baseline to compare with later in the year, as well as seeing where our early season fitness stacks up versus early-season tests in past years.  This year we have not spent much time rollerskiing with much of an upper body focus up until now.  It has mostly been focused on getting our feet under us.

The way I read these results is that they are (a) an indication of how good the athletes have been at maintaining training since the end of ski season, (b) they indicate what the athletes have done since last season, and ( c) above all they provide a point for us to compare against at the end of the summer and in the fall when we do this test again.  Things seemed more or less fine - it is always exciting to see some PRs (hey that training we did last winter worked enough that even with detraining you are better than you've ever been!) - but more important than that is what we do from here forward.  How good we are at training and smart and hard and pushing ourselves toward new levels of achievement.

Results
(Please note ski speeds vary greatly between ski models and even within a ski model depending on wheel wear, age of the rubber, and even the batch of the wheels.  Results should be taken with a grain of salt and are best as an indicator of improvement if as many variables as possible are kept constant.)

Kevin had a very strong first run up the hill

Great shot of Lizer crossing the line.

After the test we did some impulse strength on Lawlor Dr.

Kyle looking like he remembers how to do this

The boys in green: Vanya and Ian were throwing metaphorical punches at each other all day
Sorry, no pictures from the evening.  None of them came out particularly well.
