Poling, Jumping and a Long One

The weather has turned cool, and while that means it may not be quite as pretty out, it makes for great training weather.  We have been taking full advantage as this is our first high volume week of the summer.  The cool weather has made for less of an environmental toll on the athletes so everyone seems to be tolerating it quite well - it is cool to see!

Tuesday morning the Comp Team met up at Ballaine Lake for a double pole workout focused on getting back our power in the upper body.  We hit up our favorite stretch of pavement on North Tanana drive and did some short impulse repeats before heading out Farmer's Loop to finish the session with 45 minutes of distance.

That evening we regrouped on the other side of town for some plyos and review of video from the past week (and the week before for those who missed it last week).  The plyos were focused on lateral movement and especially an agility focus to them.  Feedback from the group made them sound pretty light on the body (a good thing in a big week like this), but definitely a good level of challenge technically, although not so high that we were in over our heads.

Wednesday has become one of our 'endurance development' days during the week this summer and today was no different.  Instead of some L2 skiing, today we focused on some mixed activity sessions - a bit easier at L1, but a bit longer too, with everyone completing at least one 2+ hr session for a total of 2.5 to 5 hours on the day depending on the individual.  Each session had the option for athletes to do a combination of rollerskiing and running with the objective being to lessen the overall load on the body and keep the quality of movement high throughout.  It looked like it went well, based solely on what I saw today.  I guess we will see how people look at the end of the week, but hopefully a good nights sleep and a recovery session tomorrow is good enough for people to finish the week well on Friday and Saturday.
