Comfort

It's been a busy few days here.  While a good portion of our summer Comp Team training group is either back to college, nearly there or running HS cross country, we've still been hitting the training consistently and we've been seeing some great fitness.  It's fun to see the work of the summer paying off.

It's also important to remember that the work of the summer simply leads into the fall.  It is easy to want to back off at this time of year after such a solid summer - we've definitely been here before.  The challenge shifts a bit from physical to mental as we need to find new ways to challenge ourselves and to challenge our fitness.  If we've done a good job with planning our training, we should have left some room for challenging ourselves in new areas and not let ourselves get too comfortable.  There is a great observation about great achievers in sport and elsewhere throughout life: 'they are comfortable being uncomfortable' as they are always seeking to push their capabilities.  So to must we over the coming weeks.

Pictures from training since Saturday:

Saturday's OD started with 48 km on the flat including some no-pole work mixed in.
Then finished with a punishing 12km climb up to Cleary Summit

Think we could convert a rig like this into a wax bus?

Our theme this week is uphills and upper body.  Yesterday we did some skate intervals up Old Nenana Hwy.  The group looked the best yet on the big climb.

Riley was back from his 17 day altitude camp/vacation to Colorado and looked good.

Our last week of the Prep/Devo Summer program began in the afternoon.

We alternated jogging a lap around the stadium (including a sprint on the other side) with one of 3 strength exercises, then another lap, etc.

Chris hopped in with Ethan for the 1-legged med ball chest pass.

This morning we were back at the uphill work

We skied Steele Creek and then up Gilmore Trial for 1:30 (or more if you ask Kyle)

The technique looked great, and everyone did a great job of using each other to work on technique.

The crew was sharp and the weight transfer was very good.  Fun to see the improvement over the course of the summer!
