Impromptu Bike Ride

After sitting down with Neill this afternoon to discuss possibilities for this coming year, I ventured over to Sheep Creek road to go for a spin.  As I drove into the parking area, in came Riley and then Max a little later.  Sure enough, Jonathon and Benjamin were on their way too.  So we joined up for a nice road ride up Old Nenana Hwy and back down the Parks Hwy.  It's a nice 27 mile loop with a good 6km climb thrown in right when you hit the Old Nenana.  That climb, by the way, will be the site of a new classic roller ski time trial that we'll be trying out this year and part of my reason for riding the loop was to get a bit of a feel for it.

It looks like it will be a good one, it starts with 500 meters of rather gradual uphill and then gets to a solid striding pitch with only a couple of small false flats to break it up for the next 2.5k.  The last 3k is faster terrain with some good pitches still in there - giving those who are fit and pace the first section well, the opportunity to put some time into those who don't find a good rhythm for the main 2.5k pitch.  I don't know about the athletes, but I'm excited!

Here are a few shots from today:
